Kharareef revisits the stories told in Emirati homes and along the Gulf coast: tales of fear, wonder and unexpected fortune. Its name is an Emirati term for traditional folktales, recalling a storytelling tradition passed from elders to younger generations. These stories entertained, taught lessons and gave shape to the mysteries of the sea, the dangers of the desert and the hopes of everyday life.
Inspired by Mariam Al Obeidli’s expressive illustrations, the collection gives these folklore figures a playful, contemporary form while retaining the distinctive traits behind their stories. Kharareef brings a part of this shared heritage into your collection, with a legend waiting inside every box.
